It was painted using acrylic paints thinned with water to allow the map to  show through

I traced out the design in pencil over the map then painted all the colors at the same time using a wet on wet technique allowing the colors to mix and blend

techniques as well as design of this piece make it appear both timeless and contemporary

The raised silver colored metal embellishment on the trees lends a sculptural quality to this piece

With each new map painting I have to decide on a landscape that is a iconic dreamlike version of that state. Since Nebraska is so much a part of the Great Plains I can think of nothing more iconic than the sculptural vision of an old windmill standing watch over the prairie. The full moon
